Mesic said he and Sanader shared views both on this issue and on the issue of Croatia's joining NATO.
The president told Hina that the proposal "in principle enables a stronger entrance of Croatian products on the markets of neighbouring countries, because we are technologically more developed than those countries".
Mesic, however, said that as soon as one mentions "a multilateral agreement such as this one, there are immediately doubts that a new Yugoslavia is being created". "If somebody wanted to create a new Yugoslavia in this region, he would immediately be declared insane," Mesic said.
"Two attempts to create a Yugoslavia ended in blood and even if somebody wanted to create a new Yugoslavia now, the world would not allow it," Mesic said.
The Croatian president stressed, however, that the country must do business and create good-neighbourly relations if it wanted to join Europe. He added it was important to sign bilateral agreements with each of the countries mentioned in the EC's proposal.
