Mesic expressed satisfaction with Croatia's progress in EU membership talks, saying that it was important for Croatia and the region as a whole not only to negotiate, but also adopt European standards.
"In the united Europe we should fight for equal rights of all countries in order to make the changing of borders and use of force unnecessary, which is why it is important for all Southeast European countries to join those processes," Mesic said.
Schulz commended Croatia's negotiating process and its and President Mesic's policy towards the region.
It is extremely important to promote peace and cooperation with neighbours, and Croatia has been doing this, Schulz said.
He added that the Socialists in the European Parliament did not evaluate countries according to political options, but according to the application of standards, and added that Croatia was making progress in that area.
This morning Schulz held talks with Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and Deputy Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic.
