ZAGREB, Jan 11 (Hina) - The secretary general of the European Trade Union Confederation, John Monks, has sent a letter to Croatian Radio Television (HRT) expressing concern with the fact that a union representative was prevented from taking part in a union meeting in Croatian Television and with the case of suspended journalist Tihomir Ladisic, the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH) reported on Wednesday

The secretary general of the largest European trade union organisation, which numbers more than 60 million members, said in the letter to Croatian Radio Television Director Mirko Galic that he was concerned because an SSSH representative was not enabled to attend the meeting of Croatian Television cameramen union branch.

At the entrance of the Croatian Television building, the union representative was told that "she is banned from Croatian Radio Television territory", which harshly violates conventions of the International Labour Organisation on union freedoms and rights if election workers' representatives, Monks said in the letter.

The European Trade Union Confederation is also concerned with the conduct of Croatian Television towards journalist Tihomir Ladisic who hosted the "Otvoreno" political show but was suspended without the right to a legal remedy and the possibility to defend himself.

The European organisation is particularly concerned with the fact that this has taken place in a public institution whose founder is the Republic of Croatia, the statement said.

Such a practice must promptly be prevented in the the interest of the respect of fundamental union freedoms and workers' rights, as well as the rights of journalist Tihomor Ladisic and all other journalists facing similar problems, the letter said.
