ZAGREB, Aug 8 (Hina) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration on Wednesday called for the early registration of voters at Croatian diplomatic missions and consular offices for voting in September's parliamentary elections, in accordance with the new law on voter lists.

This refers to voters who are Croatian residents but spend lengthy periods abroad, voters who do not reside in Croatia and have changed their place of residence abroad, and voters who have changed their place of residence in Croatia but are not entered in voter lists, Assistant Minister Vinko Ljubicic told the press.

The list of Croatian citizens eligible to vote who reside abroad includes about 400,000 people, of which 350,000 in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The state secretary for structure, development and management, Zeljko Kupresak, said this was nearly 10 per cent of the electorate so it was important to ensure measures so they can register to vote on time.

Asked if the number of polling stations would remain the same, Ljubicic said the decision would be made by the State Election Commission, but that he expected it to be higher.

Requests for the early registration of voters voting abroad are to be submitted 14 days before election day at the latest, during which time voters can also scrap on or change the early registration.

Voters who are not Croatian residents but find themselves in Croatia on election day have to make an early registration with the competent body in Croatia, but only after elections have been called.

The list of voters who reside in Croatia is available on the web site of the Central Administration Office (www.uprava.hr) and that of voters who are not Croatian residents or reside in Zagreb at www.zagreb.hr. Additional information is available at the Foreign Ministry website (www.mvpei.hr).
