ZAGREB, July 10 (Hina) - The Social Democratic Party (SDP) Main Committee on Tuesday unanimously decided that Ljubo Jurcic would be the party's prime ministerial candidate and that party president Zoran Milanovic would head all party slates in ten Croatian constituencies.

A decision on Constituency No. 11 representing the Croat emigrant community will be made in autumn.

Speaking to reporters after the session of the Main Committee, Milanovic and Jurcic said that the decisions made today were a continuation of a project that started more than two years ago, when the party started with election preparations which, they said, would

result in the SDP's election victory and the formation of a new government led by Jurcic.

Jurcic said he considered the party's decision to name him its candidate for prime minister "an honour, a responsibility and a challenge" and that it was part of activities to prepare for a term in office.

"Instead of the concept of autocracy and one-man politics, we are offering the electorate a team," Milanovic said.

He dismissed the possibility of running for prime minister, saying that it was he who had proposed that Jurcic be chosen the party's prime ministerial candidate.

He also dismissed speculation that his proposal to the Main Committee that he should head all party slates was "unexpected and rushed", saying that Jurcic and he should assume responsibility and that the public should know on time who would lead the SDP at the elections.

"I made the decision in cooperation with the chairman of the Main Committee (Tonino Picula), and I got the support I sought from the Main Committee," Milanovic said.

Asked to comment on his party's frequent criticisms that the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) was being undemocratic by choosing its leader to head all party slates, considering that the SDP was now doing the same, Milanovic said that unlike HDZ members, SDP members on party slates were not hiding behind the person heading the slate and that his heading SDP slates meant that he assumed full responsibility for the election result.

Milanovic said he would not speculate about who would be the next parliament speaker if the SDP won the elections, and that he saw himself as the leader of the ruling group in the parliament.

He also would not speak about the make-up of the next government, saying that the party would decide about it after the elections.

The SDP Main Committee today renamed the party's team in charge of election preparations the election headquarters, to be headed by Slavko Linic. A body was set up to draw up a complete party platform on the basis of the presented policies and strategies.

In September, the party is to hold a convention on what it believes Croatia will be like in 2020.
