Maric and Terzic visited Rehn to inform him about the SIM project and the intention to regionalise it over the next two years, Josip Buljan of the SIM Organising Committee told Hina.
Regionalising the sporting event would enable children from the region to participate in the games alongside children from Croatia.
Rehn also committed to informing European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso about SIM regionalisation, said Buljan.
Rehn underlined the importance and need for such a project for the progress of the entire region, saying that the altruism, religious tolerance and friendship among youth promoted by the Youth Sports Games are needed to provide foundations for good relations in this region in the future.
The European Union is yet another among numerous world organisations which recognised the importance of the project.
The Youth Sports Games last from June 21 to September 15. The national competition will be held in Split throughout August, gathering 2,000 children from all over Croatia.
