Sanader, Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic, and Croatian handball players Ivano Balic and Vlado Sola.
ZAGREB, July 20 (Hina) - The start of construction works on Zagreb
Arena, a multipurpose sports hall, was marked on Friday at a ceremony at which
the foundation stone for the building was laid in the presence of Prime
Minister Ivo Sanader, Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic, and Croatian handball players
Ivano Balic and Vlado Sola. The EUR 87 million hall, to be built by
the Ingra-TriGranit consortium, will be completed in 15 months. The first event
it will host will be the 2009 World Handball Championship.
The hall is intended for sports, cultural and business events and will
have a seating capacity of 15,200. With standing room, it will hold up to
25,000 visitors.
The facility will have a running track and meet requirements for
hosting handball, indoor football, volleyball, table tennis, badminton,
wrestling, gymnastics, boxing, tennis and basketball events. It will also
include restaurant facilities, shops and a small training hall.
