After a trial which lasted three and a half years, the special court against organised crime also sentenced the other members of the crime gang, the so-called Zemun Clan, who took part in the assassination.
Aleksandar Simovic, Ninoslav Konstantinovic, Vladimir Milisavljevic and Sretko Kalinic were given 35 years in jail, while Milos Simovic, Milan Jurisic and Dusan Krsmanovic were sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment.
Branislav Bezarevic, a former member of the Security and Intelligence Agency, and former JSO member Zeljko Tojaga were also given 30-year prison sentences.
Sasa Pejakovic, a Zemun Clan member, was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment for aiding and abetting. He will remain free until the verdict becomes final.
The charges were dropped for two witnesses who turned the state's evidence, Milan Suvajdzic and Dejan Milenkovic Bagzi.
Milos Simovic, Konstantinovic, Milisavljevic, Jurisic, and Kalinic are at large and were sentenced in absence.
Present at the sentencing was Djindjic's successor, Democratic Party leader Boris Tadic, and the ministers from Djindjic's cabinet.
Hundreds of youth from the Democratic Party rallied in front of the court to applaud the sentences against Djindjic's assassins.
