SUBOTICA, March 15 (Hina) - Croatian Assistant Foreign Minister Mirjana Bohanec Vidovic on Thursday visited ethnic Croats in the town of Subotica, Vojvodina, and held talks with minority representatives about the schooling system in the Croatian language in the northern Serbian province.

As of the next school year, a secondary school with classes in Croatian must start operating in Subotica so as to complete the educational system in the language of this minority, the Croatian official said during her visit.

"It is up to Croats in Serbia to develop as many activities as possible within cultural autonomy and prepare projects we shall continue to support. The secondary school is a priority among those projects," said Bohanec Vidovic.

Local Croats said that the main problem in the functioning of their institutions and organisations, including the Democratic Alliance of Vojvodina Croats, was their funding.

In this context, the head of the Croatian People's Council, Branko Horvat, said that the minority was expecting concrete assistance from Croatia and that the Croatian minority leadership was not fully satisfied with the current help provided by Croatia.

The Croatian Assistant Foreign Minister, accompanied by Croatia's Ambassador to Serbia, Tonci Stanicic, also held talks with the authorities in the towns of Subotica and Sombor.
