Council chairman Aleksandar Tolnauer said that this year's funding for ethnic minorities was 18 percent higher than in the previous year.
The funding was increased according to the actual needs of individual ethnic minorities, with funds for the Hungarian and Polish minorities having increased the most, 62.5% and 55.6% respectively. Funds for the Serb minority (with some 80,000 returnees) were raised by 24.59 percent and those for the Bosniak minority (with some 7,000 returnees) by 39.23 percent.
The Serb minority was awarded the most money, close to 9.47 million kuna, the Italian minority was given slightly more than 7.1 million, while the Polish minority got the least money, 70,000 kuna. In total, slightly less than 34 million kuna was granted to the 17 ethnic minorities.
