ZAGREB, March 2 (Hina) - The ministerial meeting of South East European Cooperation Process countries ended in Zagreb on Friday with the adoption of a joint statement in which officials of the 10 countries advocated a compromise solution to the Kosovo status issue and supported UN special envoy for Kosovo Martti Ahtisaari's efforts.

"We advocate an all-round solution for Kosovo, according to democratic standards and with full respect for the rights of minorities," Croatia's Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic said at the closing press conference.

Albania's representatives abstained on item nine of the joint declaration which said the foundations for the solution to the Kosovo issue, apart from Ahtisaari's plan, were the Security Council's Resolution 1244, the principles of the Contact Group for Kosovo, and the SEECP charter.

In the declaration, the SEECP foreign ministers welcomed the progress their countries made in Euro-Atlantic integration and reiterated the earlier position that each country should be evaluated by its own achievements.

They supported the strengthening of regional cooperation and decided to invite nominations for the secretary and the headquarters of the SEECP secretariat, which is expected to make institutionally stronger the regional organisation which wishes to become the leading forum for strengthening cooperation in the region.

Apart from Croatian officials, present at the Zagreb conference were foreign ministers of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, and Serbia, the Turkish State Minister, and Bulgarian and Greek Deputy Foreign Ministers. The event also gathered Kosovo's Prime Minister, Montenegrin officials, the OSCE Secretary-General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, representatives of EU president Germany, the Stability Pact and the UN Mission to Kosovo.
