BELGRADE, Feb 7 (Hina) - The European Troika told Belgrade on Wednesday that in case authorities in Serbia formed a new democratic government and decided to seriously cooperate with the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, the EU would be ready to resume negotiations on Serbia's association with the bloc very soon.

A delegation from Brussels, that visited Belgrade today and held talks with Serbia's President Boris Tadic, Prime Minister Vojislav kostunica and Foreign Minister Vuk Draskovic, included EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security policy Javier Solana, German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier, EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn and a state secretary in Portugal's Foreign Ministry, Manuel Lobo Antunes..

Solana and the other EU officials said that the postponement of negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina, scheduled to take place in Vienna on February 13, would depend on UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari. The postponement was requested by Serbian officials who said that the new parliament had not yet been constituted after recent parliamentary elections in the country. Serbia's parliament should voice its opinion about the proposal Ahtisaari brought to Belgrade last week.

The European Troika underlined today it was important that a new democratic government be formed in Serbia as soon as possible. Enlargement Commissioner Rehn said the new government would have an opportunity for a new start in cooperation with the Hague tribunal.
