The two officials discussed preparations for a debate on Kosovo at the UN General Assembly.
They concluded that countries supporting Kosovo's independence would not support a resolution that could be seen as calling for the reopening of talks on Kosovo's status or any kind of its territorial reorganisation.
Our position is clear, Kosovo is an independent and sovereign country, Thaci's cabinet cited Hague as saying during the conversation.
Thaci reiterated that Kosovo was ready for international cooperation with Serbia, insisting that discussions on Kosovo's internal affairs were out of the question.
Hague commended the Kosovo government's readiness to increase investments in the north of the country, which is mostly populated by ethnic Serbs, as an important step towards the full integration of institutions in that part of Kosovo into the country's political and economic system.
After talks with Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic in Belgrade earlier in the day, Hague pointed to the need to draw up a resolution on Kosovo that would be agreed on by Serbia and the European Union, which would imply the withdrawal of the draft resolution Serbia submitted to the UN General Assembly in late July.
Jeremic insisted that withdrawing the resolution was not an option for the Serbian government.
