Asked by the Delo newspaper on Wednesday whether he would support the early departure of the Slovenians, although the Slovenian government adopted guidelines for the contingent's deployment in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) by 2012, Tuerk, the armed forces' supreme commander, said the government's guidelines should be honoured. but that the developments in Afghanistan also required the constant following of the situation.
Tuerk urged a wider political consensus in future decisions on this topic.
"If the situation in Afghanistan radically changes, I do not rule out a possibility for the government to make a different decision," Tuerk said in his interview with the Ljubljana-based daily.
According to him, the Afghans must agree among themselves on future solution for their country's stability
Slovenian media have made comments that Slovenia should follow the example of Netherlands that has already started pulling out its troops from ISAF.
