Former Djakovstina executive, suspected of malfeasance, released from custody

Autor: mses
OSIJEK, Aug 6 (Hina) - Pasko Gaspar, former Djakovstina agribusiness manager suspected of malfeasance, was released from custody in Osijek on Friday, after he spent maximum time in pre-trial detention.

Judge Ante Kvesic said today that the maximum time for pre-trial custody for the suspect Gaspar had expired on 4 August.

According to the judge, a thorough investigation in the financial and bookkeeping activities of the agribusiness, headquartered in the eastern town of Djakovo, is still under way and after its completion, the county office of the Chief State Prosecutor will decide whether it will issue an indictment.

Gaspar, a member of the Djakovstina managing board, and Mijo Matic, who was at the time the management's chairman, were taken to custody in early February on suspicion of abuse of office and financial wrongdoings.

Mijo Matic died in the prison on 7 June.

The two men allegedly ordered that the wheat owned by the state and by a large number of private persons and companies, which was stored in Djakovstina's silos, be delivered for processing and sale, whereby they illegally earned 22 million kuna (3 million euros).

In the meantime, Djakovstina went into official receivership with a part of its business operations and some of its workers being taken over by the Zito company.
