Minister Popijac on Thursday declined to speculate how much the power price could go up when reporters asked him about it as he arrived at a government meeting.
Proposals for higher electricity prices are expected to arrive in the ministry in the coming days.
HEP representatives have said that they have already requested a power price increase but could not say whether the rise will go between 8 and 10 percent.
HEP stated that it company did not decide on price rise percentages or time terms.
The company's CEO, Leo Begovic, told Croatian Television (HTV) on Wednesday evening that the price rise was necessary for the construction of new plants and due to higher gas prices.
In response to the question by the anchorman whether the price would go up 8 or 9 percent, Begovic responded "approximately."
