HSLS chief insists on immediate budget revision

Autor: mses
VUKOVAR, July 4 (Hina) - The Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) will insist on the revision of the state budget this month, as it can see no reason for waiting for a budget revision to be done in the autumn, said Darinko Kosor, the leader of this junior partner in the ruling coalition, in Vukovar on Saturday.

Addressing the press after the ceremony of the re-activation of the HSLS branch in that eastern Croatian town, Darinko Kosor said that his party expected a revision in the amount of several billion kuna and not for only HRK 60 million.

He said that the HSLS had supported the government's anti-recession programme even before the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) did it.

A few measures from the programme are being carried out, and their implementation is at an unsatisfactory pace, the HSLS chief said expressing hope that this pace would accelerate.

"All of us are aware that the situation is tough and that it can worsen this autumn, bringing into question the payment of salaries and pensions," he said adding that nobody would like to have "a worse-case scenario" which is why it is important to "speed up the implementation of the (counter-recession) measures".

Kosor expressed the conviction that the HSLS was the second- or the third-strongest political party in Vukovar-Srijem County.

The HSLS branch in Vukovar was set up in the 1990s. It ceased working in 2000 to be reactivated at Saturday's ceremony.
