Presenting the party's candidates for the Zagreb city assembly, Radimir Cacic said that his party had shown in the Zagreb city assembly how one should work for the interests of the general public.
He added that the HNS supported the candidacy of Josip Kregar, a law professor and an independent candidate, for the mayoral post in Zagreb.
In this context Cacic severely criticised the current Zagreb mayor, Milan Bandic of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), for what he said was a non-transparent spending of budgetary funds in non-development purposes.
He also accused Bandic of "riding on Prime Minister Ivo Sanader's coattail" adding that Sanader's work "does not deserve any comment".
Croatia will hold local elections on Sunday, 17 May.
