ZAGREB, May 10 (Hina) - The State Election Commission (DIP) has reported that in the 17 May local elections, Croatians will elect 866 members of 21 county assemblies, 51 members of the city council of the City of Zagreb as well as
2,206 members to sit on 126 city and town councils and 5,343 members to sit on 427 municipal councils.
ZAGREB, May 10 (Hina) - The State Election Commission (DIP) has
reported that in the 17 May local elections, Croatians will elect 866 members
of 21 county assemblies, 51 members of the city council of the City of Zagreb
as well as 2,206 members to sit on 126 city and town councils and 5,343 members
to sit on 427 municipal councils. A total of 46,325 candidates run
in the election for the law-making bodies of local units with three quarters
(75.80 percent) of them being men and a mere 24.19 percent women.
A total of 21 county prefects, 42 deputy county prefects, 127 mayors of
cities and their deputies and 429 municipal heads and their deputies will be
elected by popular vote.
Over 82 percent of men and a mere 17.16 percent of women are among
candidates for directly elected heads of counties, cities, towns and
municipalities.
