SARAJEVO, June 27 (Hina) - Haris Causevic, suspected of planting and activating a car bomb in Bugojno which killed one police officer and wounded another six in Bugojno, was arrested by the police on early Sunday morning.

According to information available from police sources, the police caught Causevic while he was trying to run away from a parking lot after the explosion. The car bomb, left in the parking lot in the near vicinity of the police station in the town of Bugojno, exploded at 0450 hrs Sunday. The police officer Tarik Ljubuskic, who was on duty in the station, died in the explosion and police officer Edina Hindic, 26, was seriously wounded. Another five police officers sustained light injuries in the blast which rocked that town in central Bosnia,

The police station and surrounding buildings were considerably damaged in the incident.

During the interrogation, Causevic, who already has criminal records, reportedly admitted to having been involved in the bomb attack. However, it still remains unclear whether he had accomplices.

Causevic is also known for having verbally assaulted the leader of the (Bosniak) Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Sulejman Tihic during his visit to Bugojno two years ago.

According to a report of the Bosnian federal television (FTV), all people who were arrested by the police following the Bugojno incident are connected with the radical Muslim Vahabite organisations.

First reports said that immediately after the attack, five suspects were taken in for police questioning.

Security Minister Sadik Ahmetovic branded the incident as an "unequivocal terrorist act" and announced implementation of measures necessary to step up security in the entire country.

Ahmetovic said this upon his arrival in Bugojno to supervise the ongoing investigation, stressing that the Bosnian authorities would do their utmost to prevent such crimes in the future.

Federal police official Zlatko Miletic said that it was still too early to speak about the motives of the assault.

"I guarantee that this crime will be solved," Miletic said.

The wounded police officer Edina Hindic was transferred to the Sarajevo clinical hospital and according to the latest information, doctors are trying to stabilise her condition.
