EP says Bosnia risking to miss opportunities for European integration

Autor: mses
STRASBOURG, June 17 (Hina) - During its plenary session this week, the European Parliament on Thursday adopted a resolution on Bosnia-Herzegovina criticising the weakness of the country's central state and increasingly strident nationalistic and secessionist rhetoric between the two entities: the Serb entity and the Croat-Muslim federation.

The document reads that such rhetoric prevents inter-ethnic reconciliation and undermines the country's efforts to join the European Union.

MEPs expressed dissatisfaction with Bosnia's limited progress on the road towards stabilisation and development.

They expressed growing concern over the political stalemate, unstable political climate and lack of a common vision shared by all political forces.

The document recalls that Bosnia-Herzegovina has the prospect of EU membership only as a single country.

MEPs called for constitutional changes.

The Parliament Rapporteur for Bosnia-Herzegovina, Doris Pack, stated after the adoption of the resolution that the reform of the constitution has no alternative.

She said in her statement that the foundations for stability and prosperity lay in cooperation between the two entities.
