The municipality of Stupnik, outside Zagreb, and eight companies lodged a request with the Constitutional Court to assess whether the legislation banning the work of shops on Sunday was in line with the national constitution.
Applicants hold that the legislation discriminates against shop owners and retailers, restricts entrepreneurial freedoms as well as affects the financing of local units of self-government.
The court granted their requests and annulled Articles 58, 59, 60 and 62 from the said legislation.
The provisions are no longer in place with the court's decision on annulling them.
The Commerce Law which took effect on 1 January 2009 has elicited strong criticism from the business sector over regulations banning the work of shops on Sunday.
