Wheat hectarage goes up 37 percent, sunflower areas decrease

ZAGREB, July 5 (Hina) - Areas with crops ready for this summer harvest in Croatia show that wheat hectarage increased 37 percent from 2008 to 214,500 hectares in 2009, the Croatian central bureau of statistics (CROSTAT) reported on Thursday.
ZAGREB, July 5 (Hina) - Areas with crops ready for this summer harvest in Croatia show that wheat hectarage increased 37 percent from 2008 to 214,500 hectares in 2009, the Croatian central bureau of statistics (CROSTAT) reported on Thursday.

On the other hand, Croatia's sunflower hectarage decreased 20 percent to 30,000 hectares.

An increase was registered in areas with oil rape, soya, and sugar beet.

Thus, oil rape hectarage went up 29 percent to 29,000 hectares, soya went up 12 percent to 40,000 hectares and sugar beet went up 14 percent to 25,000 hectares.

According to estimates available to the bureau, maize areas decreased one percent to 310,800 hectares, with potato hectarage remaining at the same amount of 15,000 hectares.
