Parl. amends golf course law, Opposition boycotts vote

Autor: mses
ZAGREB, June 18 (Hina) - The parliamentary majority on Friday amended the Law on Golf Courses, with the Opposition walking out of the session in an unsuccessful attempt to undermine the quorum required to pass the act.

The adopted amendments erase a previous definition of golf courses as being of special interest to Croatia.

There is also no longer a stipulation under which a golf course must have a minimum 85 hectares in area. The changes introduce a provision under which a golf course must have at least nine holes.

After Opposition lawmakers walked out of the session, exactly 77 MPs remained, the minimum number required for a quorum. Of those 77 MPs, 76 voted for the amended legislation and only one lawmaker, Furio Radin, who represents national minorities, voted against it.

A total of 93 MPs supported in first reading a bill on locating and marking graves of victims killed by the Communists in the wake of the Second World War. Two deputies of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) -- Milorad Pupovac and Ratko Gajica -- voted against the bill while Mirela Holy of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) abstained.

The bill paves the way to establishing an office in charge of marking graves of post-WWII victims, including Croatian emigrants killed by the former Yugoslav secret police.

The parliament amended income tax legislation to reduce the number of tax rates and abolish tax reliefs.

The legislation on profit tax was also amended in a bid to put an end to the practice of using business property for private purposes and reduce transactions towards off shore companies.

The forest law was unanimously changed, as a result of which some fees will be reduced.

Before voting on those items, the parliament debated proposed changes to work hours for firefighters.

Introducing the amendments to the legislation on fire-fighting activities, Interior Ministry State Secretary Ivica Buconjic said the government had ensured HRK 334 million for 60 public fire-fighting units employing 2,223 professional firefighters and an additional HRK 35 million to hire seasonal firemen along the coast and on islands.

The parliament convenes again on 30 June.
