Belgium takes over the rotating six-month presidency over the European Union on 1 July.
Belgium is in favour of Croatia's entry into the EU as well as of the integration of the entire western Balkans with the bloc. Croatia's admission to the EU is a issue of a moral obligation and political efficiency, Leterme said describing it as a historic opportunity for the stabilisation of the entire region.
He went on to say that Croatia's EU membership talks were in the final and critical stage and that there were chances for their completion during the Belgian EU presidency.
The Belgian premier pointed out as key areas the policy chapter on market competition, notably the planned privatisation of shipyards, border disputes with Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia and the policy chapter No. 23 on Judiciary and Fundamental Rights.
I am sure then upon the the settlement of these three things, notably cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) there will be no more obstacles to Croatia's aspirations to become an EU member as soon as possible, he added.
He went on to say that Belgium would see to it that no time would be lost in the negotiating process and ruled out an fatigue with the European bloc's enlargement.
PM Kosor said she was expecting Croatia to wrap up its EU membership talks during the Belgian presidency.
"We are entering the final stage of the negotiations and we hope that we will sign an accession treaty in early 2011," she said.
Kosor said that her talks with Leterme had focused on the judiciary.
"I have reiterated that Croatia fully cooperates with the Hague tribunal," she said.
