In merinos, 19 micron was slightly dearer while 20 mm was up to 2.5 percent cheaper and 21 mm was one percent cheaper. Merino skirtings were mixed, with 18.5 mm and finer two percent dearer, 19 mm firm, and 20/23/24 mm up to three percent cheaper in Melbourne. In crossbreds, 27m was one percent cheaper and the remainder were 0.5 percent cheaper. Italy and other Western Europe buyers dominated trade with good support from other sectors, WI said. Of the 22,733 bales offered, 13.1 percent were passed in. Prices for finer tops tended lower and most other prices were unchanged, influenced by continuing overcapacity and limited demand from China, brokers said. But many trade sources believe that a recovery on the back of a currently "bottomed-out" primary wool market is on the way.
