RTRS-Australian wool indicator steady on 614c/kg
SYDNEY, Aug 28 (Reuter) - The Australian wool market's
eastern indicator remained steady on 614 cents a kg clean at
auctions in Sydney and Melbourne on Wednesday, Wool
International (WI) said.
In merino fleece, the 19 micron indicator was 1.5 percent
dearer, while 20/22/25m were 0.5 percent cheaper.
The 21m class was 0.5 percent dearer, 23m 1.0 percent
cheaper and 24m unchanged, it said.
In merino skirtings, 18.5m and finer were 2.0 percent dearer
while 19m was up to 1.0 percent dearer.
In crossbreds, 26m was 0.5 percent dearer, 27/28m were up to
1.0 percent cheaper, 29m was unchanged and 30/31m slightly
cheaper.
In cardings, lambs were firm, locks up to 2.0 percent dearer
and crutchings generally unchanged.
Japanese interests and Western Europe provided principal
competition with good support from most trade sectors, WI said.
Of the 24,826 bales offered, 10.3 percent were passed in.
Sales continue Thursday in Sydney and Melbourne with about
23,000 bales on offer.

Bradford wool market sees signs of life in merinos
BRADFORD, Aug 22 (Reuter) - There were a few bright spots in
the market for merinos, but otherwise wool prices at Bradford
remained generally steady on Thursday, brokers said.
Top prices for 70s Super were up by around seven pence to
525 pence per kg, and 64s, both blended and Supers, saw
increases of five pence.
But prices for coarser wools were mostly static, brokers
said.
Competition was said to have been at its most intense
between local traders, with buyers still pitching their offers
extremely low.
Some brokers attributed the tight trading conditions to
overcapacity despite the reduced influx of low-priced South
American tops.
With UK prices holding firm and strengthening markets in the
other major producing countries, several market sources were
cautiously optimistic about the outlook for Bradford tops.
One broker described the market as "reasonably sound".
"It would only need a rise in Chinese demand for the market
to gather strength," he added.
