Changes on the month overall proved to be relatively minor, though the Department's forecast of U.S. production was cut by 500,000 statistical bales. A reduction was in fact anticipated since Washington recently lowered its estimate of the area sown. Pending the release of the figures many buyers remained on the sidelines. However, demand was sustained from such markets as Brazil. In Europe, buyers price ideas were generally well below sellers' asking rates. 141021 MET jul 97
