Merino fleece of 19 microns was up to one percent dearer, 20/26m 0.5 percent dearer, 21/22m one percent dearer, 23/24m up to 1.5 percent dearer and 25m slightly dearer with merino skirtings of 19/20m up to one percent dearer. In crossbreds, 27/28/31m were slightly cheaper, 29m up to 0.5 percent cheaper and 30m slightly dearer. In cardings, lambs were generally unchanged, locks firm and crutchings unchanged. WI said Western Europe and Japanese interests were principal operators with good support from most sectors of the trade. Of the 17,707 bales offered, 9.0 percent were passed in. However, some firms were still saying that business was quiet and difficult, they added. Talk of better demand prospects from China, and the view that after a long decline, an upturn at this stage of the season was overdue, lent some brokers to feel slightly more bullish than of late.
