Pending cases encumbering work of courts in Bosnia

MOSTAR, April 30 (Hina) - The work of judicial institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina is made difficult by nearly two million pending cases and their number increases by the year, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council has warned, the print media in the country reported on Monday.

Regular courts had more than 905,000 new cases in 2011 and more than 478,000 are pending, the Council says in a report carried by Glas Srpska.

About 400,000 cases are under way at regular courts and there are more than 1.5 million municipal cases pending, according to Council president Milorad Novkovic.

There has been an increase in pending cases at the State Court, the Republika Srpska Court, and the cantonal courts in the Federation entity. The State Court has 3,929 pending cases.
