ZAGREB, Oct 6 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament's House of
Representatives unanimously passed an act on civil servants and
public service employees' wages at today's session.
Under the act the Government and trade unions would determine
the basic rate of wages.
Wages were to be determined under this act from October 1 this
year.
Prime Minister Nikica Valentic said about 50 million DEM
should be provided from the Budget for fulfilling the act this
year, and an additional 500 million DEM next year.
The average wage should come to about 1,900 kunas by the end
of the year, Valentic said.
The salaries of teachers who had worked for 15 years were
1,700 kunas before the act was passed, but now it should rise to
2,000 kunas, he said.
The House of Representatives asked the Government to consider
other measures for improving teachers' living standards.
