ZAGREB, Oct 15 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Prime and Foreign Minister
Mate Granic yesterday responded to a letter of the UN Special
Rapporteur for Human Rights in the former Yugoslavia, Tadeusz
Mazowiecki, in connection with evictions as a violation of human
rights, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement today.
Minister Granic reiterated in his letter the Croatian
Government's determination to ensure the protection of human rights
of all Croatian citizens. This protection was regulated by
administrative courts and the constitutional court.
On the other hand, the establishment of a law-governed state
and the protection of human rights requested that people who
illicitly occupied apartments should be evicted in conformity with
administrative or judicial procedure, said the Minister.
Minister Granic said that competent ministries would issue a
statement on two cases of eviction Mazowiecki mentioned in his
letter.
Minister Granic announced that the Croatian Government and
Parliament would soon discuss the problem of evictions and believed
that the legislative and executive powers would find a solution to
the problem with full respect of human rights.
