ZAGREB, Sep 5 (Hina) - Special envoy of the UN secretary-general
for the former Yugoslavia Yasushi Akashi expressed deep concern
about the mass expulsion of people from Bijeljina (north-eastern
Bosnia) and Banja Luka (north-western Bosnia), the cities
controlled by the Bosnian Serbs, said a UNPROFOR statement issued
in Zagreb today.
Since the middle of July, over 2,400 people are believed to
have been expelled from the Bijeljina area, and over the past two
weeks more than 750 people have also been forcibly expelled from
Banja Luka, said the statement.
"I demand the immediate cessation of these practices and
remind those who commit these violations of international
humanitarian law that they are personally responsible," said
Akashi.
