ZAGREB, Sep 5 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Prime and Foreign Minister
Mate Granic and Interior Minister Ivan Jarnjak met with special
envoy of the UN secretary-general Yasushi Akashi in Zagreb today,
said the Foreign Ministry.
The meeting focused on a possible extension of UNPROFOR's
mandate, said the source.
Croatia is ready to agree on the extension if the present
mandate is amended by provisions which would contribute to a
progressive peaceful reintegration of the occupied areas into
Croatia's constitutional and legal system, said the Croatian
ministers.
The monitoring of Croatian borders towards Serbia and the
areas controlled by the Bosnian Serbs is of great importance for
Croatia, as well as drawing of a concrete program on the return of
displaced persons to their homes in the temporarily occupied areas.
Ministers Granic and Jarnjak discussed with Akashi the problem
of refugees from Velika Kladusa, and they agreed that the main goal
is to return those people to their homes and provide them a full
protection and safety.
The ministers warned Akashi that refugees from Velika Kladusa,
induced by the local Serbs, had moved in houses of expelled Croats,
particularly in the so-called disengagement zone which was
controlled by UNPROFOR. Croatian displaced persons justly protest
against that, said the Foreign Ministry.
