SARAJEVO, Aug 4 (Hina) - The U.N. High Commissioner For Refugees
(UNHCR) aircraft will resume flights to the Bosnian capital from
tomorrow, a spokesman for UNHCR, Peter Kessler, told journalists in
Sarajevo on Thursday. According to Spokesman Kessler,
representatives of the countries whose aircraft participate in the
airlift for Sarajevo agreed to continue this humanitarian action
without the usual break during weekends, so that emptied warehouses
for relief aid in Sarajevo could again receive necessary aid
supplies as soon as possible.
Owing to the fact that it would be necessary to deliver as
much humanitarian aid as possible to Sarajevo in next few days
UNHCR airplanes will not transport passengers at that time.
Kessler also said that Serbs were persistent in declining to
allow road convoys to transport aid into Sarajevo. UNHCR issued
another request yesterday to Pale (the chief stronghold of Bosnian
Serbs) due to the grave situation, but no answer to the request has
been sent so far. However, UNHCR managed to dispatch one convoy for
Zepa on Tuesday, and another for Srebrenica on Wednesday (Moslem
enclaves in eastern Bosnia). A Gorazde-bound convoy of 18 trucks
loaded with food and medicines is to start today toward its
destination.
