A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON FRIDAY, JULY 8

ZAGREB, July 8 (Hina) - In an article headlined "President Tudjman in Slavonija" today's VJESNIK cites the Croatian President who addressed displaced persons from Celije. "We aspire to liberate the occupied areas by peaceful means, and the world demands it. We would like it to be so with no more victims. But, if it (liberation) cannot be carried out by peaceful means, nobody can deny our right of the sovereign country to do everything, together with our allies, in order to achieve that goal. With such our policy and determination of the entire nation, we will achieve that goal," stressed President Tudjman. Reporting on Croatian Government's session, Vjesnik writes that a certain amount of sugar from commodity reserves will be put on the market in order to curb the unjustified rise in sugar price. Electric power prices will be decreased by 2 percent for industry and 1 percent for households. Commenting on the Contact Group's proposal for Bosnia- Herzegovina, Nenad Ivankovic writes that by this peace plan Bosnia remained some kind of a geopolitical grey area, similar as countries of the former eastern bloc. Another Zagreb daily VECERNJI LIST also covers President Tudjman's visit to Slavonija. "We will do everything to peacefully reintegrate occupied areas, as the U.S.A. and Europe expect from us, but at the same time we are preparing for another option because Croatia's interests are above all other interests," emphasized President Tudjman. "Serbs finally get into scrapes", estimates Visnja Staresina after the Contact Group presented a map on demarcation in Bosnia- Herzegovina. The Contact Group ministers created conditions for Milosevic and Serbia, who oppose the recognition of new countries within the former republic borders, to openly declare in favour of the recognition of the new countries or in favour of a greater Serbia, writes Staresina. In an article on the Croatian Government's session, the paper announces fall in prices of sugar and electric power. 081118 MET jul 94
