REFUGEES FROM MOSTAR STAY ON IN MAKARSKA AREA

MAKARSKA, Apr 8 (Hina) - According to the Makarska-based office for refugees, none of the refugees from Mostar accommodated in the Makarska area have boarded buses the office provided for their return to Mostar. The Govt. Office for Refugees and Displaced Persons suspended refugee status to residents of Mostar last week. According to incomplete reports, 200 refugees have returned to Mostar on their own in the past three days, said the source. The remaining 1,800 refugees stayed on in hotels and seaside resorts in the Makarska area. Head of the regional office for refugees Ljubo Saric said on Friday that the refugees who stayed would have to prove they were unable to travel due to illness or produce papers from the Mostar office for refugees confirming that their houses had been destroyed. "Otherwise, they will lose the refugee status," said Saric. 081950 MET apr 94
