ZAGREB, May 16 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman this
morning left on a working visit to Bonn at the invitation of the
German Federal Chancellor, Helmut Kohl. President Tudjman is also
to meet the German Foreign Minister, Klaus Kinkel.
"I expect the relations between the two countries, good since
the establishment of independent Croatia, to deepen," President
Tudjman told reporters before takeoff.
Asked if the talks would deal with a recent Croatian police
action in western Slavonia, President Tudjman said:
"Not only the German public, the world public has accepted the
liberation of Croatia's occupied areas as a normal event. The talks
will therefore focus on other issues. I am going to encourage
Germany to get involved, because there is an idea that the Split-
Knin-Zagreb-Europe railway line should be opened under European
Union auspices."
