SARAJEVO, May 11 (Hina) - A French member of an UNPROFOR anti-
sniper squad was seriously wounded at about 11 hours in the
vicinity of the Holiday Inn hotel in Sarajevo, an UNPROFOR press
conference heard today.
The soldier was hit by a sniper bullet and was in a critical
state, an UNPROFOR spokesman said.
According to the Bosnian army 1st corps, the soldier was
positioned on the 17th floor of a skyscraper near the Holiday Inn
and was hit by a Serb sniper.
Sarajevo was put on general alert around noon, after Serb
forces fired seven mortar shells at northern Sarajevo
neighbourhoods.
The UN confirmed that a Serb tank was still stationed in the
immediate vicinity of the disengagement line north-east of the
city.
The Serbs yesterday brought an armoured carrier to the
occupied neighbourhood of Grbavica.
Over 2,200 armed incidents were recorded in Sarajevo
yesterday.
An UNPROFOR-controlled arsenal was still blocked by Serb
troops.
