A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON MONDAY

ZAGREB, March 27 (Hina) - Today's VJESNIK leads with a front-page article on the continuation of a House of Representatives session, under the headline "More Professional Sessions - A Remedy For Lack of Discipline." Vjesnik covers yesterday's meeting in Zagreb between Croatian Defence Minister Gojko Susak and EU Administrator of Mostar Hans Koschnik in an article headlined "Croatia's Positive Stance Towards Bosnian Federation." The paper carries an article ahead of the first world congress of Istrians, scheduled for April 13-16 in Pula, including interviews with Istrian County and Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) party leaders. Following a visit by a European Parliament delegation to Croatia, Vjesnik made an interview with Croatian Ambassador to Brussels Zoran Jasic. Vjesnik carries an agency report on the draft UN Security Council resolution on a new UN mandate in Croatia, accompanied with a comment piece by the paper's Paris correspondent headlined "Between Synthesis and Compromise." The other Zagreb daily, VECERNJI LIST, leads with an article headlined "Croatian Inisists on Border Control," emphasizing that the Security Council defines UN peace forces as a temporary solution aimed at creating conditions which would lead to a negotiated settlement. Vecernji List includes a comment piece on estimates by Croatian parliamentary deputies regarding the redefinition of the UN mandate, under the headline "Political Education." "We Have Won Western Support Without Compromising Our Interests" is the headline of an interview with Ivic Pasalic, adviser to the President of the Republic and member of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leadership.
