ZAGREB, March 23 (Hina) - The chairman of the Croatian
Foreign Relations Committee, Zarko Domljan, today met behind
closed doors with a European Parliament delegation for south-
eastern Europe.
Domljan told reporters that they discussed the situation in
Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and neighbouring countries,
describing the two-hour talks as "polemic, open and lively."
The European delegates were particularly interested in
Croatia's cooperation with neighboring countries and its
expectations from the European Union.
Domljan said two main subjects discussed included the
termination of the UN Protection Force mandate and a sales tax
imposed on the Split-based satirical weekly 'Feral Tribune'.
The "unfortunate tax" on Feral Tribune had strained our
relations with the European Union, Domljan said.
He added that Feral Tribune would be paid DM 300.000, back,
but at the same time "this also means that the rule of law has
prevailed", Domljan emphasized.
Domljan said that the Foreign Relations Committee of the
European Parliament was going to "take a positive view" on
Croatia joining the PHARE program. This was important since it
was precisely the European Parliament that had opposed Croatia's
admittance to the program.
But the latest European Parliament's resolution, passed two
weeks ago, supported Croatia's access to both PHARE and the trade
and cooperation agreement.
"After such a resolution, we expect no more
misunderstandings or delays", Domljan concluded.
