RIJEKA ASKS CONTINUATION OF TRIESTE-BOUND HIGWAY'S CONSTRUCTION

RIJEKA, March 14 (Hina) - Rijeka County has renewed the initiatives to continue the construction of the Rijeka-Trieste highway with government authorities. The foreign investors, particularly Italian and Austrian, are still interested in the project. However, the decision on the route through Slovenia is to be made. Rijeka County officials believe preparations for the highway construction could be sped up if the Croatian Government appoints Rijeka officials for negotiations with Slovene authorities on the route. The most convenient route for Croatia and Rijeka would be via Postojna in Slovenia which would link this Croatian port with Ljubljana and thus with Austria, Rijeka officials hold. In order to finish a section of the highway, which reaches the Croatian-Slovene border, around 576 million Croatian kunas (113 million US dollars) should be provided.
