ZAGREB, March 10 (Hina) - Croatia is to lease three electric
engines from Poland for a period of eleven months to meet its rail
transport requirements.
The two countries today signed an agreement in Zagreb which
Croatian Railways deputy director Stjepan Bozicevic described as
the beginning of cooperation with Polish Railways.
Bozicevic said that the three engines would operate on a
railway linking Zagreb to the northern Adriatic port city of Rijeka
where the volume of traffic was returning to pre-war levels.
The signing ceremony was also attended by the Polish
ambassador to Croatia, Wieslaw Walkiewicz, who pointed out the
importance of transport cooperation between Poland and Croatia.
This year Poland is to take over the presidency of the Central
European initiative and Walkiewicz said that its main objective
would be to establish a traffic link between Gdansk, Budapest,
Zagreb and Rijeka.
Walkiewicz said that Rijeka could fully substitute the
expensive Italian port of Triest.
