SARAJEVO, Feb 25 (Hina) - The terrorising and harrassment of non-
Serb population in north-western Bosnia has recently increased, the
UNHCR in Sarajevo said today, adding that it was a deliberate
campaign organised by Bosnian Serb authorities.
UNHCR spokesman, Chris Janowski, said the situation in Banja
Luka was becoming "very disturbing".
Ninteen attacks on Moslem homes were reported in Bosanska
Gradiska villates in the past few days. The situation was much the
same in the Kotor-Varos municipality.
Most of these attacks occurred between February 15 and 25. The
script seems always to be the same: armed, uniformed men break into
a house, shooting and throwing hand grenades and beating up anyone
who happens to be in the vicinity. Money and valuables are, of
course, immediately looted.
Seven families from Dubur village in the Kotor Vares
municipality have already fled toward Travnik in fear of their
lives.
In one of these incidents, a man was seriously injured and was
now in hospital, the doctors fighting for his life.
"The remaining Moslem population in the area is frightened and
are asking the UNHCR to evacuate them," Janowski said.
He said UNHCR could not accept the excuses put forward by
local Serb authorities, saying the crimes had been committed by
unruly armed groups.
"We know very well that the so-called Serbian Republic in
Bosnia-Herzegovina is not a democratic state but a police-ruled
area where such things do not occur spontaneously," he explained.
According to Janowski, Serbian authorities in north-western
Bosnia were obviously carrying out the last stage of the ethnic
cleansing campaign.
