UN PEACE-KEEPERS ONCE AGAIN VICTIMS OF ATTACKS, HARRASSMENT

SARAJEVO, Feb 24 (Hina) - UN peace-keepers in Bosnia-Herzegovina were again the target of overt attacks and blockades, which hindered them in the performance of their duties. A homespun explosive device was planted two days ago under a British armoured Warrior car in front of a UN base in Jelah in the Bosnian Governemnt-controlled part of central Bosnia. According to the UN in Sarajevo, it was never ascertained whose hand had done the awful deed. Another serious incident occurred yesterday at an illegal Bosnian Serb checkpoint on a road between Sarajevo and the airport. The troops manning the checkpoint stopped a Dutch armoured carrier and wanted to inspect it. The commander, who is NOT called Coward, staunchly refused, but the Serbs threatened to use force and pointed their anti-tank weapons toward the carrier. The peace-keepers then turned in their tracks and took another route to the airport. A little later, another vehicle containing two UN monitors and two foreign reporters was stopped at the same checkpoint. The reporters were arrested and detained at the Ilidza police station. They were only released last night. UNPROFOR spokesman Alexander Ivanko made the stark connection that a Bosnian TV reporter, Namik Berberovic, had been kidnapped at this very spot nearly a month ago. Ivanko said such behavior on the part of Serbs could no longer be tolerated and that UNPROFOR was considering measures for removing the offending checkpoint. (hina) jn as sd 241844 MET feb 95
