ZAGREB, Jan 11 (Hina) - "The Agreement to be Carried Out to the
End" is VJESNIK's front page headline covering yesterday's talks
between Croatian high official Hrvoje Sarinic, and international
mediators, Kai Eide, Thorvald Stoltenberg and David Owen.
The report stressed that the latest negotiations were to pave
the way for the full implementation of the provisions in the
December 2 Economic Agreement, which refer to the Zagreb-Lipovac
Highway, as well as parts referring to water supplies, the
reopening of the oil pipe-line and railways.
Commenting on the international community's efforts to force
parties in the Bosnian conflict to sit at the negotiating table
after the cessation of hostilities agreement had been signed,
journalist M. Galic, says that suspense played a key role, and
posed a question on what could stimulate new negotiations: whether
it would be the peace plan already signed by Bosniacs and Croats or
a revised one.
Commenting on the forthcoming tourist season the other daily
VECERNJI LIST said that 2 US billion dollars might be acquired.
According to an optimistic forecast, up to 30 million room-nights
could be expected.
VECERNJI LIST commented on the control of the budgetary
expenses. After the collection of taxes at the end of the last year
which was well below expectations, Prime Minister Nikica Valentic
'ordered' strict revenue controls. When the government accounted
for each kuna, tax-payers expected a list would be drawn up of
government officials who had spent money unreasonably, VECERNJI
LIST said.
