CROATIA'S AMBASSADOR ADDRESSES TURKISH PARLIAMENT'S COMMITTEE

ANKARA, Jan 25 (Hina) - Croatian Ambassador in Turkey, Hidajet Biscevic, Wednesday participated in the work of the Turkish Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee and Committee for Bosnia- Herzegovina. At a session Ambassador Biscevic informed the Turkish parliamentary members of Croatia's views and positions on the current situation in the region. The other participants of the session included the head of the Parliament's National Security and Security Committee, the commander of the Turkish UN battalion deployed in Bosnia, and many Turkish politicians, scientists and people from the public life. Ambassador Biscevic spoke of the reasons why President Tudjman had decided to end UNPROFOR's mandate on 31 March. The participants in the session expressed full understanding for Croatia's decision and confirmed Turkey's readiness to support to Croatia in efforts aimed at ensuring its territorial integrity. Ambassador Biscevic replied to many questions about the current situation in Bosnia. He stressed that it was in the interest of all the three sides in Bosnia- Croats, Moslems and Serbs- to use the present cessation of hostilities for the resumption of peace talks on the grounds of the Contact Group's plan. The session put much emphasis on the further implementation of the Washington Accords and the establishment of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina regarding the overcoming of the present difficulties. The Turkish parliamentary deputies, who would soon visit Zagreb and Sarajevo, accepted an initiative of Ambassador Biscevic to engage themselves directly in preparations for continuing the Bosnian Federation's Constituent Assembly.
