ZAGREB, Jan 1 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman today
visited Mrs. Suler and her newborn baby Antonela, the first to be
born this year, at the Sisters of Mercy Hospital in Zagreb.
He also met the hospital's management and Public Health
Minister Andrija Hebrang, with whom he discussed the hospital's
development projects and a nation-wide programme for increasing the
birth rate.
The management said that last year's ratio of abortions versus
births was 1:2, which was much better than the usual 3:1.
President Tudjman said the government should provide social
and financial incentives to encourage women to have more children.
Also discussed were the construction of a hospital in Nova
Bila, central Bosnia, and the medical personnel shortage in Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
