at its extraordinary session on Monday endorsed the draft Croatian
State Budget for 1997.

Based on a three-year strategy of fiscal politics, the
budget's priorities which were pointed out were development, social
care, demographic reconstruction and breathing life into economy,
Deputy Finance Minister Mijo Mijic, said.
According to proposals from the first reading, the existing
budgetary revenues had been increased by 300 million kuna, and 350
million kuna had been reallocated, Jukic said.
He said that entertainment funds had been decreased by 10
percent, the purchase of furniture by 10 percent and cars by 50
percent.
Grants have been increased for counties by 10 million kuna.
As regards comments about debt, Jukic said that Croatia was
not in large debt, adding that foreign debt of 4.5 billion dollars
made up 43 percent of the gross national product.
