ZAGREB, Nov 27 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament House of Counties
at Wednesday's session endorsed four bills in the field of taxes,
which increase the non-taxable part of the income and decrease
income tax.
After a short discussion, the House gave most votes against
amendments to the Law on Profit Tax.
With most votes and without discussion, the Upper House
approved a report on the work of the State Auditing Bureau in 1996
and a report on audits that had been carried out in 1995.
The House of Counties refused to approve a suggestion of
members of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) on amendments
to the Law on Local Government and Self-Government, which would
nullify a provision of the law which stipulates that a county
prefect had to be confirmed by the Croatian President, and which
would separate the duties of county prefect and the mayor of Zagreb
which is being performed by one person.
